Dental Surgery

The following conditions may occur as a result of the dental surgery: excessive bleeding, pain, swelling, dry socket, difficulty opening the jaw, nerve injury (temporary or permanent numbness to the lip or to the tongue), and bone fracture.
The following suggestions will assist you in the period immediately after the surgery, not only to make you more comfortable, but to promote more rapid healing:
1. Any bleeding will usually be arrested by applying pressure on the area with gauze.
2. If bleeding suddenly resumes later on, biting on a dry fresh tea bag will generally stop the oozing.
3. Avoid hot beverages for 24 hours after the surgery.
4. Please periodically rinse with warm salt water the day after the surgery for several days.
5. Please avoid biting your "frozen" lip or tongue.
6. Bruising or swelling may occur.  Placing an ice pack or frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel will minimize the swelling.
7. Cigarettes and alcohol should be avoided for 48 hours.
Please don't hesitate to call if you any concerns.
